IANTD ADVANCED NITROX COURSEThe advanced Nitrox diver training will give you a better understanding of the alternative gas mixtures, equipment configurations, and diver discipline associated with technical diving while maintaining the conservative operational parameters of the traditional recreational diver.
More importantly, advanced Nitrox diver training will make you a more knowledgeable, more skilled, and more disciplined scuba diver. The course employs Nitrox mixes from 21% to a maximum of 50%. The maximum for diving is Nitrox 40 and for decompression and safety stops, the maximum is Nitrox 50.
Prerequisites
Certification as an IANTD basic Nitrox diver or CMAS 2 Star diver with Dive Leader qualifications and 50 logged dives. Other equivalents include deep air diver with 16 open water dives, or proof of experience as a deep air diver, with 50 logged dives. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
Course Content
Lectures
- Pressure and Gases - including different kinds of breathing gases, a review of the gas laws, equations for calculating partial pressures, oxygen percentage and absolute pressure, and gas compressibility.
- Physiology of Nitrox diving - oxygen and the diver, covering hypoxia and hyperoxia, signs and symptoms of oxygen toxicity, predisposition and oxygen limits. Tracking your central nervous system oxygen exposure as well as your whole body and pulmonary toxicity.
- Nitrogen and the diver - Decompression illness, predisposition and reducing the risk, equivalent air depths and inert gas narcosis.
- Breathing, Carbon Dioxide and depth - breathing under water, carbon dioxide retention, depth blackout, pressure and the diver and pressure related injury.
- Mental and Physical Fitness - Training the mind, experience, physical fitness programs and swimming fitness.
- Diving Equipment - Primary equipment and equipment configuration.
- Planning Nitrox Dives - Basic dive management, oxygen management, planning for the best mix and maximum operating depth, equivalent air depths, dive tables, balancing the oxygen and nitrogen clocks and gas management.
- Nitrox mixing and Handling - equipment and oxygen, oxygen compatibility, oxygen cleaning procedures, blending and analysing Nitrox.
- Diver Injury Management.
- Demonstrate proficiency in a variety of dive techniques and employ precision buoyancy control.
- On an open water dive demonstrate dive planning abilities thus avoiding CNS and DCI (decompression illness) exposure risks.
- Perform a gas switch to the pony cylinder during simulated decompression.
- Deploy a lift bag using at least one of two techniques, using it as an ascent platform.
- Demonstrate a safe attitude and awareness to the instructors satisfaction.
- Demonstrate acceptable navigation/ orientation abilities.
- In an area where a depth is attainable beyond the planned depth, the student must show the discipline not to exceed the dive plan.
- No dives deeper than 40 metres.
- All dives on a maximum of 40% Nitrox with 50% for safety stops.
- The appropriate safety stops are to be performed.
Course Cost
This is a two day course at £280 fully inclusive of Student manual, certification etc. Boat fees are not included and are charged as extra at £40 per person per day.
